Small Sided Football 6s to 10s @ GCFC
Small Sided Football
Gosnells City FC has been a pioneer Club of the Small Sided Football (SSF) program in WA. The format was introduced to the Club by Football West in 2007 to our 6's and 7's as a hub with three other clubs in our area. In 2010 the format will expand to reach ages 6 through to 10, with the 6s and 7s continuing in local hubs and the 8s, 9s & 10s playing in non-competitive local leagues. With the emphasis on enjoyment across all skill levels and the constant development of player's skills, it is a format that is very exciting, enjoyable and rewarding for players, parents and the Club. For more information on SSF please visit the FFA's site on the subject www.smallsidedfootball.com.au

MATCH REVIEW......NUMBATS GAME ...... Gosnells 0 v's Canning 10
YIKES....I am not sure what happened....I think everyone was tired and still sleeping! Never mind, we have the school holidays coming up so time to get refreshed and refocused for the rest of the season! Despite the score, we did have some good plays! Jacob S braved out being goalie first half and once his fingers were able to warm up, he saved lots of shots made at him! Colby ran up and down the pitch and although tried to score, he just couldn't get the ball to the net and made a great goalie 2nd half! Mason made sure he marked his man (boy!!) and played a great game never giving up! Ahmed has improved each week and is beginning to learn the game (he now knows what hand ball is!!!)....can't wait to see your skills after all your holiday practice! Benaldy played a tough game and made some defensive tackles and Amin worked hard in the defence area too.....stealing the ball several times. Faduma, once again kept her spirits high and always chased the ball whilst Yusuf tried his hardest to chase the ball down. Steven earnt Kevin's player of the match trophy and I am sure he is showing it off ....that was a nice surprise wasn't it kids......keep practising during the holidays and you may find that it is yours next! Remember to come along to training so you can practice as a team!
MATCH REVIEW......MAGPIES GAME ...... Gosnells 7 v's Armadale 3
YIPEEEEEE......this win was a long time coming but so well deserved! You all played like little legends and all the calling for the ball and moving into space paid off big time! Rhyan began as goalie 1st half and made a spectacular flying save (something he has always wanted to do!). Jacob T played a cracker of a game with 2 goals scored and also did a fab job as goalie in the 2nd half. The Mighty Mitchell scored 2 himself and ran his legs off. Mason filled in for us and worked well with Rhyan to cross which resulted in another goal for us! Zac also discovered the magic of listening to Scott and when he stood on the "magic leaf" was surprised that the ball came right to him like Scott said it would! And how can we forget our magical defence players who worked hard to ensure that Armadale didn't sneak up on us and score! We had Tara mid field who really got stuck in .....Yasiin was dynamite and played a well pressured game and Colby showed who was boss tackling anyone that came his side of the pitch! All in all you played like a team , all playing a huge part in your HUGE WIN!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!
Thank you to Jay for being our match referee and I hope Brandon and Tiahna are well again soon and that Jacob G enjoyed his Holy Communion.

MATCH REVIEW......NUMBATS GAME ...... Gosnells 0 v's Kelmscott 8
We arrived a little late as we had to make our way back from Cockburn so missed the first part of your game! But...we did see some of the action! Both goal keepers, Yusuf and Benaldy, did an awesome job at keeping as many goals as possible at bay! Faduma did some dynamite work in the defence area with her feisty tacklng and Ahmed is really picking up the game and enjoying the action! We couldn’t keep Jacob S off the pitch, he was eager to get to work and chase the ball. Steven once again never gave up (you wear me out just watching you run!) and Colby ,although he never scored 9 goals on his 9th birthday, he did try! Zac made sure he kept pressure on his players by chasing and making sure he always had his player in his sights. Amin made some good runs up the line, but unfortunately was unable to get the ball into the net! You all seemed to have fun out there and despite what the score card showed, we played a MIGHTY GAME WITH FIGHT!!!!
MATCH REVIEW......MAGPIES GAME ...... Gosnells 0 v's Cockburn 1
The parents were LOUD & PROUD this week! Everyone played like pros and the score reflected this! Did you know that when we played this Canning team at the beginning of the season they beat us 5-0! Yasiin was awesome making some fantastic saves as goalie first half and then when he came and played out he also had a chance at scoring one! Jacob G is a natural legend up back (he is like a brick wall that stops anything that comes his way) and made some great turns and steels this week and saved a lot of goal opportunities which kept the score down! Mitchell wore down the attackers first half and then saved some tricky goal shots when goalie 2nd half! Brandon whipped around the field and around the players throughout the game. Jacob T made some great long passes that hit the spot and opened up a few chances. Tara stayed in position and was unlucky with some of her tackles but aimed to put the pressure on. Rhyan flew down the line on several occasions and was unlucky with a couple of shots. AND thank you to a nervous Mayson who came and made his Gosnells debut and filled in for Tiahna. He certainly was made welcome by all and showed off his ball skill talents! WELL DONE kids you were all little champs this week and a DYNAMITE TEAM!

MATCH REVIEW......NUMBATS GAME ...... Gosnells 11 v's Armadale 4
This was an awesome game full of lots of activity! Zac brought along some "new blood" to the team and hadn't forgot what Scott had taught him in the Under 7's! Steven was like a goal machine turning everything he touched into a goal! Yusuf did a great job in defence and attack and kept Armadale from scoring on many occasions! Amin had a sensational game and I lost count how many he scored! Benaldy volunteered to be goalie again this week and did a super job defending his territory! Colby played a top class game with some legendary goals and Faduma was a little champ and was so close to scoring after a great dribble down the line. Ahmed is picking up the game nicely and really looked the part for his first game! AND WELCOME BACK Jacob S you saved some fantastic pops at goal! Great TEAMWORK KIDS and a GREAT RESULT!
MATCH REVIEW......MAGPIES GAME ...... Gosnells 1 v's Fremantle 8
We played a really tight game and once again played great soccer but just never saw the ball go in the net enough! Tara was our "cool calm & collected" goal keeper first half and stayed alert. Brandon always has an impressive game, concentrating on the play and keeping focused and again this week was a legend up back. Jacob G dazzled in the defence and made some HUGE saves with his HUGE kicks getting it out of the danger zone! Yasiin followed through on his tackles making sure that the ball didn't get past on several occasions. Jacob T played skilfully, unlucky that a few shots just missed, but put the pressure on the goalie! Rhyan tried really hard this week to ensure that the other players didn't "push" him off the ball (the extra weetbix worked!!) AND the WOW of the game was probably Tiahna's great pass to Mitchell which set up a goal opportunity and we SCORED!! They can knock you down Mitchell but you get up again! ENJOY your holiday Tiahna (wish I could fit in your suitcase but I think I am over the 20kg allowance!!!). Well Done kids for never giving up and for playing with great team spirit and teamwork. THANKS to Brandon's Dad for being a great REFEREE!!!! Not the easiest of jobs but well appreciated!

Gosnells 1 - Kelmscott Roos 6
With a late kick off the sun was high and hot. Gosnells knew it was going to be hard under those conditions and after looking at the Kelmscott team we realised it was going to be a tough game with 9 players, so without any sub.
We got warmed up pretty quickly after we picked the wrong end of the pitch to practice as the goal was right before a hill and every time we shot at goal the ball would roll down the hill!
The game started with Gosnells attacking - the most pleasing thing was that the team did what was practiced at training. The talking between the players was exceptional and they looked to pass the ball instead of holding on to it for too long. Against the run of play, Kelmscott scored after 7 minutes and then Gosnells still attacked but after another 7 minutes - Madison, after a great goal last week decided she wanted to score again by slicing a great shot passed James who had played exceptionally well in goal.
For the rest of the half Gosnells were all out attack with Kelmscott only rarely venturing into Gosnells half but Gosnells found themselves 3 - 0 down at half time.
The coach called all players to the centre of the pitch for a team talk at half time where juicy oranges were well received from Daniel's Mum.
Gosnells started again very brightly with all out attacks with Jordan, Patrick and Daniel playing great two touch football and going past the Kelmscott midfield defence but finding a rock of a keeper or post or crossbar in goal every time.
Against the run of play Kelmscott scored another two goals until Jordon scored a well deserved goal for Gosnells.
Kelvin really impressed by his tireless running for the entire second half. Natasha and Ryan played exceptionally well holding the defence after Madison pushed up into midfield. Natasha is starting to put the hard tackles in again. Ryan's reading of the game is getting better and better each week. James came out in the second half and played well attacking and defending. Josh had a very solid first half followed by a rock hard second half in goal. James and Josh were great and goal and the scoreline doesnt reflect the hard work they put into keeping our goal.
Jordan was awarded a well deserved man of the match for being a constant threat to the Kelmscott goal.
The coach has not stopped shaking his head all week to work out how we lost the game ... this week we are entertaining Kelmscott at home ....
..... to be continued ....
Just for fun!Played 6 won 4 drawn 1 lost 1 for 22 goals against 16 points 13

SSF 10s Red - 6th June 2010
Gosnells 4 - Kelmscott Roos 1
..... continued from last week....
Yet another sunny morning for Gosnells to start the return leg against the Kelmscott Roos. We welcomed Liam from the 11's who came down to play and also welcome back Mohummed who has rejoined our team.
In the huddle before the game, the coach stressed how unlucky they were last week to lose and tried to stress how important it was to get the first goal against the big and powerful Kelmscott.
Just like last week we went straight on the attack and became camped in their half. Our first surprise was it took us 20 minutes to open the scoring with a wonderful chip over the keeper by Patrick. Eva was back to her crunching best in defence looking up and clearing the ball to Gosnells players (apart from the one James decided to get his nose to - if anyone finds it can they hand it back next week...),
We were hit by another surprise 5 minutes later when Kelmscott had there first shot at goal while the referee had the whistle to his lips. The ball sneaked past Josh who had, up to that point, a rather boring first half in goal.
The second half started as the first half finished with Gosnells controlling the pace of the game much to the pleasure of the Coach who is glad they are listening in training and passing the ball to each other into space.
Very quickly the defenders and midfielders of Ryan, Madison, Eva, Kelvin and Mohammed worked out that Kelmscott's keeper was just putting the ball on the ground and toe punting the ball right down as far as he could. They worked out they had to drop a little bit deeper to mop up all of the long balls that were punted down to them and follow up with impressive two touch football. Our defenders also identified their best player was upfront and marked her out of the game this week. Great tactics!
Jordon managed to get off a couple of early shots in the second half which were very unlucky to result in goals. The second goal came after 5 minutes with a well worked fast moving 4 man move which resulted in a fantastic cross over by Jordan so all Daniel had to do was tap it into goal.
Josh, sensing a win, kept pushing forward and it was no surprise when he turned his marker inside out and powered a left foot rocket past the keeper. Unfortunately, Jordon was found himself at the end of an unpleasant incident but made us proud by staying calm and not retaliating. Great self control there Jordon!
The fourth goal came with another good team movement resulting in Liam hitting an unstoppable thunderbolt with just a few minutes remaining. Kelmscott managed to have a sustained period of pressure which resulted in James making two world class saves. Likewise, their Keeper kept the score down to four with a fantastic save pushing the ball over the bar.
The final whistle went and it brought the end to an exciting conclusion to the two games with Kelmscott.
After the game we found out that they had been unbeaten until this week and hadn't had a goal against them until we played them last week.
Congratulations to the whole team on their fair play and playing in the spirit of the game which makes it a pleasure to Coach and for Supporters to watch.
Thanks to our referees Richard and Mark for ensuring the game went smoothly and thanks to Josh's family for the refreshing fruit for half time.
Eva was awarded Man of the Match for outstanding defence, marking and putting loads of effort into her runs.
Just for fun!
