Match Reports 2008
Sunday 21 July 2008
Sunday 21st July saw the fifth division game between Gosnells City and Kalamunda at Maida Vale Reserve.
After much discussion over the nets being set up properly and lack of a referee, Kalamunda provided a referee 25 minutes after the initial kick off time.
Gosnells started off strong with most of the ball possession and a few shots taken to no avail. Kalamunda had a few attempts at goal but none were successful, a free kick awarded to Kalamunda just outside the 18 yard box was saved and we made it to half time 0 – 0.
Both teams came out hard after half time, Leah Bulloch Lee who was filling in for the side scored shortly after being on the pitch taking the score to 1 – 0 and boosting the teams’ morale. Some good defence by Chante McCann and newcomer Kelsey Gubb kept Kalamunda at bay but they did not give up their attack and one of their strikers lobbed a ball over the defence and goal keeper in an attempt to score. Gosnells goalkeeper ran back to stop the ball and managed to scoop it at the last second with one hand and save Kalamunda from scoring – the ball was cleared back up to the Kalamunda goals and soon after a brilliant left footed shot from the edge of the 18 yard box by Paula Ferris put Gosnells further ahead.
Both teams fought hard to the final whistle but Kalamunda couldn’t manage to score against Gosnells – whose determined attackers and strong defence were working well together and saw the game end 2 - 0.
The division 5 girls were happy to sing their victory song after a well played match saw the girls working harder and better together.
Gosnells Vs Fremantle: 25 May 2008
On a warm and humid afternoon the pre-match warm up saw us pick up our first casualty for the day
with Paula Ferris tweaking a hamstring.
From the kick-off Gosnells looked threatening, first up we received a gift from Fremantle, they scored an own goal.
After a few early rangefinders Donna Douglas eventually found the mark, we were soon 2 - 0 up until a couple of defensive blunders allowed Fremantle back into the match.
Half-time saw the teams deadlocked on 2 – 2.
In an attempt to shore up the leaky defence Elaine Doherty was dropped into the backline. Aisling scored our first goal for the second half, to get our noses back in front. With many key players injured Gosnells were forced to rotate the front runners on a regular basis in order to keep them as fresh as possible. With this Jacqui McCrum was moved up into attack (and almost scored a goal!!) her key function was to press the defence. In the dying minutes of the match Donna Douglas’ rocket like header on goal was saved by the keeper, but quick footwork saw her nudge the ball over the line. End result Gosnells 4 Fremantle 2
Overall the team is working well together, still need to keep up the communication.

Gosnells Vs Subiaco Utd: 18 May 2008
Sunday 18th May saw Gosnells Women’s first division team take on Subiaco Utd at their home ground. It was a well fought out game by both teams. As Gosnells kept up the battle they managed to put away another two great goals just before half time. As Gosnells kept the pressure on through out the second half Gosnells were unlucky not to get 2 or 3 more. Gosnells kept a clean sheet with the score finishing 3 – 0 to the away team.
